Happy 4th!

Jason & I both had the day off yesterday, so we went over to our friends' house and had a private fireworks showing. We do this every year and enjoy every moment.

All of our friends get together have have a great night!

They always take great detail in setting up every firework. We rarely ever just light one firework at a time.

How did you spend your 4th?

The Red Faced Runner

Last night, I wasn't in the mood for a medium run, so I only ran a couple of miles. My calves and booty were sore from my ripped class on Monday night. It was about 95 with no breeze when I started running at 5 pm (after work). It was pretty, pretty warm, but my legs felt good. I am glad I only ran that couple of miles.

I get so red when it's really hot outside. I am the red faced runner!

I have the day off today for the 4th of July and we're heading out to our friends house for a bbq and fireworks. All of our friends have been getting together every year for this for about 11 years. Parents, friends, kids, everyone comes! I think this is the only time of year everyone gets together. I love it and I'm really looking forward to it! I'm bringing my famous 7 layer dip. Everyone loves it and it's usually devoured in hours! I'll do a post tomorrow about how I celebrated...

How are you spending your holiday? If you're not in the US, how do you celebrate during the summer?

It hurts to Blink

I had a blast on my 4th. We went over to a friends house to celebrate and met up with all of our friends. We ate some really good food (so much food was there and of course, beer). I was pretty good and only had about 1 1/2 beers. I try not to have an alcohol 2 weeks prior to a race.

Fireworks are kind of a big deal for our friends. The guys made a huge stand and they link all the fireworks together (in separate batches) and put on a great show for everyone (this is the 10th ceonsecutive year). We had about 5-6 of these shows, below.

It's so much fun enjoying the company, food, beer and of course, the show. I can't wait for next year.

This morning was a little tough though. We didn't get home until about midnight and I'm at the point in my training where I can't miss any workouts. The last 2 days were scheduled rest days (because of the 13 miler this weekend) and today I needed to be up at the the gym by 4.

I got there on time, and did everything in record time (5k=28:34), but was half asleep for it. Maybe I do better when I'm so tired, it hurts to blink. I also lifted weights with my arms and legs, then did a core workout. I finished my 1 1/2 workout (I pretended it was Monday for the workout).

I hope I can make it through the work day without falling asleep.

How was your 4th?

Still Resting

Yesterday morning, Jason made me chocolate chip pancakes. It's kind of funny, because I've never had them before. They are just like eating a huge, soft cookie. I liked it.

I made a perfect hot, summer time snack. It's kind of like a sorbet. For this flavor, you take 1 thawed out frozen can of white grape juice concentrate, 2 C chopped strawberries and 1 t lemon juice and boil them together (stirring often) for 1 minute. Remove from heat and add to blender and blend until liquid. Freeze and when ready, scoop out. I love it! Jason said it was too sweet for him, though.

This is how I fell asleep last night. Scoutie likes to sleep on my head. Whatever looks like a very uncomfortable spot, the better for her. This is how it is every night and she loves it!

Whenever I run 13 miles, I take 2 days prior and 2 days after off of running. It worked out perfect, being a long holiday weekend. I've been getting some things done around the house and catching up on some much needed sleep. I slept until 7 today. It's going to be really bad tomorrow. We normally leave the 4th of July party around 11-12 and I'm getting up at 4 tomorrow to hit up the gym. Man, I'm going to be in a bad mood tomorrow. I hope I'll be able to keep my eyes open for work tomorrow.

What are your 4th of July plans?
