I had 10 miles on the schedule tonight, which got cut short. I was feeling a little knee pain and didn't want it to get worse. So, I chose the smart route. I ended up running 7 1/2 miles. Not too shabby! I'm icing my leg while I cook dinner...spaghetti. This is my hubs favorite.
I have a question for you guys. Since I've never raced this far (1/2 marathon), how do I taper? Here's what I was planning:
20th: 5k (fast) run / spin
21st: 6 mile run
22nd: rest
23: run to gym / weights/ run home (round trip run 5.15 miles)
24th: rest
25th: 5k fast run / spin
26th: not sure, usually a long run day
27th: 5k fast run / spin or rest day
28th: rest
29th: rest
30th: race day!!!
So, how far should I run on the 26th? Should I take the 27th as a rest day or do my normal workout? Thanks for every one's advice during this training cycle. I'm stronger than I ever though I was and am ready for this race. I just wish I could speed up time. I hate the waiting game.
Sorry, I'm of no help to you here. It has been a long time since I have trained for a 1/2 mary.
ReplyDeleteI've never really tapered before a half. My last one I did a 7 mile run on the Thursday evening before the race (Sunday) and that seemed to work great. That was the only true taper.
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog and I love it! You're a huge inspiration to me... I'm just starting out.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't recommend three rest days in a row before the race - maybe not even two, unless you regularly take two days off. Just do a really light and easy workout/run instead. Personally I start to feel "flat" with too much time off.
ReplyDeleteYou look so cute in your pic!! I usually have a specific planthat I am following for taper...I'm so new to running I need something that tells me what to do!! :)
ReplyDeleteThe taper looks great. I would skip the spinning on both days. Lift weights instead. Your glycogen stores need to fill up and not get depleted with spinning.
ReplyDeleteI would google some 1/2 training plans and see what their taper weeks look like. I usually follow Hal Higdon. I haven't done his half training, but for his 10-miler I was good to go on race day!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I LOVE your shirt!
