A Better Saturday

I had a hard time sleeping last night. I'm use to a routine and because of what happened the night before, the routine won't continue. It was a tough night.

Today, my mom took me out for my early birthday (the 24th). We spent a girls day out. We went to to Target to pick a few things up, and then to Boudins for lunch. Afterwards, I took her to a lavender shop (her favorite) to look around. Afterwards, we hit up a froyo place. It was pretty cool. You could pick out what ever you wanted. They charge by the ounce. I got chocolate froyo, with chocolate covered espresso beans and cut up snickers. It was so good. I can't believe I ate it all.

After we got done running errands, I came home and made freezer jam. The recipe called for 3 cups berries. I used blackberries and cherries mixed. First, you add the pectin to the juice (whatever you'd like...1 3/4 cups). Bring to a boil, then add the berries. Stir very often. Then, add the (up to) 3 cups of sugar (I used 2 cups). I then needed to mash up the berries. Then ladle them into your jars. I had bought freezer jars. They are prefect for this. I can't wait to try them on my girls night (breakfast for dinner). Here are all the jars.

Here's the jam, before it set, in the container.

Tonight's dinner was pretty easy. My mom had bought me some freshly made sough dough at Boudins. We open a bottle of wine and ate that with Gertie's Fresh Spreads on top. I'm not the one to try unusual things for the first time. This was artichoke and artichoke with tomato spread. It was GREAT!!! I couldn't stop eating it. All the flavors of the tomatoes, the artichokes, the onions, the green and black olives, all mixed well together. Like I've mentioned before, I love being able to pronounce everything in the ingredients.

Here's an up close shot. So much flavor.

Since we drank so much wine, I think it's bed time. I need to get ready for my girls night tomorrow.
What did you have for dinner tonight?

  1. Do you have a favorite bread style? Sour dough? Yeast? Flat?

  4. Yum, that spread looks really good. I too would be in danger of eating it all. Last night we had grilled catfish with fresh salsa and sweet potato. Plus an extravagantly juicy peach. Perhaps the best I've had this year. Then I made tomato sauce and canned it. I started off with a table full of tomatos and reduced it down to three quarts. I always question if the time is worth it now. But I know this winter I'll be glad I did.

  5. Sounds like you had fun with your mom. I love running errands and spending time with my mom. I especially value her time now since she lives 13 hours away! Happy early bday!!! That spread looks amazing also!
